"For the past 5 years we have created a relationship with Chris that has evolved into full 2 day camps in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We’ve seen the improvement on fundamental technique and the progression of our athletes to a more evolved and styled structure."
President of the Muay Thai Federation of Puerto Rico
I’m Chris Romulo, a retired professional Muay Thai champion, speaker, author and coach. I’m also a first generation Filipino-American/ NYC native, husband and father.
Muay Thai saved my life 30 years ago when I was a young knucklehead coming up in Queens Village and I’ve been paying it back ever since.
I started training and competing in the mid 90’s when Muay Thai was virtually unheard of on the East Coast. I was mentored by Sitsutam Muay Thai, Ultimate Gym and Jason Strout of Church Street Boxing Gym.
Through my time in the sport, I was blessed to capture 5 Amateur titles (including a bronze medal at The IFMA World Championships in Thailand in 2004) and professionally, I was crowned the 2010 WKA Professional North American Champion.
My passion for the sport guided me to share my knowledge and open up the first combat sports gym in Rockaway Beach NYC, alongside my wife Sarah and sharing the motto that; All it takes is heart.
Over our ten years there, we ran a Muay Thai academy for kids, teens and adults in our community.
With the desire to give back to kids like myself, we started a scholarship program, with the help of the non-profit organization, The Muay Thai Project, for the at-risk youth in our area.
In an effort to further expose the sport, we hosted a number of sanctioned amateur Muay Thai fight shows, Battle Rock Promotions, that brought in talent from up and down the East Coast.
In addition, I’ve worked closely with the Wounded Warrior Project helping our veterans gain mental and physical strength through Muay Thai.
There is a reason why Muay Thai is considered the "King of the Ring"...
"Back in early 2000’s, I was a fan of Chris Romulo. After hurricane Maria and knowing how the Romulo’s brought themselves back up after Hurricane Sandy, I said to myself “who better to train our community and inspire us than Chris?”
For the past 5 years we have created a relationship with Chris that has evolved into full 2day camps in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
We’ve seen the improvement on fundamental technique and the progression of our athletes to a more evolved and styled structure.
As a Federation, we are so pleased with the results we’ve seen in our community that every year we are expecting for him to come over to provide us with his Muay Thai expertise that also includes athlete’s mindset."
Paul Rossy, President of the Muay Thai Federation of Puerto Rico
"I’ve brought Chris in to teach workshops at Weapons 9 several times over the years. Chris was an outstanding fighter and is a great coach He’s given my students one of the most useful workshops we’ve had here. Chris was clear and explained the details to great lengths... It met and went beyond our expectations."
Chris Tran, Weapons 9 Muay Thai
"We love Crom's seminar every time we host one. He brings much love and passion to Muay Thai. His seminars are alway well structured and educational for all levels. He always goes the extra mile by stretching out his seminars so students can learn more. You must invite Crom to instruct your next seminar!!"
Mike Kimm, Glory Gym MMA
"I invited Chris to my program because I knew he had the experience and knowledge to run a good seminar. He is well-known in the Muay Thai community. My students and I had a great time as Chris explained very well all the techniques that he shared with us. We picked up a lot from him! Chris exceeded our expectations and gave us a huge value…in just 2 hours we were able to understand and apply the techniques. We thank Chris for such of great experience."
Renzo Mendoza, UFC Mamaroneck
"Chris is what I consider an ambassador for the art of Muay Thai not only for the technique and tactics that he knows but also for his philosophy in and outside the ring and in life. I have had the honor and privilege to participate in a seminar and assist him in a camp in my gym in Puerto Rico and many of the things I learned from him we have implemented in our Muay Thai curriculum and fighters/athletes camps taking us to a new level of success in the ring and in our group classes. Gracias Chris y familia!"
Juan Delgado, Combat 360
"I am the owner of a highly successful MMA academy in New York. I also have known Crom for many years as I was both a friend and a fan. I brought him to do a seminar at my academy because I felt my students could benefit from his incredibly solid Muay Thai skills. But what I did not expect was how eloquent and thoughtful he was as an instructor. I have seen many fighters teach and few have the grasp of the art of teaching that Crom possesses. He can teach effectively to any level, and all my students, from beginner to professional level, left the seminar with a fantastic understanding of the material and lots of new tricks to play with. Also, while he is an incredible maestro in the ring, few are as humble, personable and downright kind as Crom (and his wife Sarah who assisted). One thing I very much appreciated was how he interweaved his material with the curriculum and progressions we have in our academy, adding rather than "overwriting." He took the time to ask what we have been working on and what the students were having difficulties with. He also was able to adapt to our MMA context. It is that thoughtfulness and attention to our specific needs that put his seminar in the 5-star category. My students are still talking about how great a session it was and I look forward to having him back many many times in the future. I can unreservedly recommend Crom to any academy of any style. Don't miss out!!"
